The tax reassessments globally increased by Euros 1.9 billion in France from 2014 to 2015.

The reassessments notified by the French tax authorities reached € 21.2 billion in 2015, compared to € 19.3 billion in 2014 and € 18 billion in 2013, increasing by 18% in two years. The taxes and penalties actually collected by the Treasury increased slightly faster, by more than 20%, from € 10.1 billion to € 12.2 billion.

The corporate tax reassessments have grown the fastest, increasing by € 1 billion in a year. Another point for attention is the amount of taxes and penalties deriving from audits performed by the division specialised in auditing the MNEs: they reached € 5.8 billion, increasing by 37% in a single year.

These figures clearly demonstrate the strong political will to tackle fraud, tax evasion and profit shifting, in particular in the international field, both for corporate tax and VAT purposes, but also the higher return on investment and time spent of tax audits more focused and better designed. These data are also the outcome of the much better cooperation between tax authorities to foster exchange of information, as a result of the various action plans initiated at OECD level in the last few years.
